One year ago today, I made the following post:
"Houston, we've got kittens"
And four weeks later, she finally emerged from her nest and we got to meet her:

And one year later...

We'll never know if she ever had any littermates, but we never saw any evidence of other kittens. Also don't know the fate of the mamacat. But, I'm glad we have Loki.

The littlest things can bring us such joy
Yesterday Loki had a butt explosion. Well, actually a series of butt explosions. You know that sound a ketchup bottle makes when you're trying to squeeze out ketchup when it's almost empty? That sound was coming out of my poor kitty's behind. So I called the vet. Told the front desk woman my 5 month old kitten was having liquid diarrhea, should I bring her in? She kinda hemmed and hawed and seemed to think I was overreacting, but, I could bring her in if I wanted. I didn't think I was overreacting. First of all, she just got spayed and liquid poop post-op might be a sign of something more serious. Secondly, it was Friday, and if this didn't clear up soon, I didn't want us all to suffer all weekend. And third, and probably most important, I do NOT want to start a cycle of UTI's, which can happen after a bout of diarrhea.
So, brought her to the vet. They took a fecal smear (I called it "swabbing her poopdeck"), and a shot of antibiotics. She bit me twice: once while she was getting the shot, and the other while I was putting her back in her carrier (I guess she was still mad).
Turns out she had a bacterial infection in her gut. (Take THAT front desk lady! Paranoid crazy cat lady wins!) Went home with a large bottle of antibiotics that we get to squirt down her throat for the next 20 years. As soon as I get us settled in the car and turn on the engine, I hear that empty ketchup bottle noise again. Nooooooo!!! So I bring her back in to see if they'll give us a peepee pad to put down in the carrier. Not only did they do that, but they hosed down the carrier for me! What soivice!
So that was the afternoon of poop. She's feeling much better now.
In the evening we went with Eden to the valley brew for dinner and drinks. The service is practically nonexistent, the food is inedible, and the prices are exorbitant, but when the weather is nice and you can sit outside it really is a nice place to hang out. I had a dirty vodka martini which was dirty because they used isopropyl alcohol instead of vodka, but the olives were good.

Right now Loki passed out in a garbage bag full of hangers that she was playing in before her pain killers (aka mommy's little helper) kicked in. Don't worry, her head is sticking out of the opening, so she's getting plenty of oxygen. Her spay surgery went perfectly.
So I finished up my first "week" of pre-nursing courses. I say "week" because classes only started yesterday, so it's not really a full week. My only complaint is that the building layout at Delta is labyrinthine and confusing. I'm not gonna lie: biking to school sucks, but I desperately need the exercise. Biking to school will give me about 4.5 hours of exercise a week, which is a huge improvement over my current 0.0 hours.

We dropped Loki off to be spayed and microchipped this morning. I didn't realize that she had to stay overnight, so now I'm sad because my poor darling kitty has to stay overnight at the scary vet!
Well I thought I had more to write about, but I guess that's it.

It's been a while since I've taken any pictures of Loki. She's 3 months and 2 weeks now. She's less of a rumble-tumble kitten and turning into an elegant cat. She loves the windows at our new house.
